Vitamin D Injections (7 Helpful Facts)

October 31, 2022

Have you decided you need a little more of the sunshine vitamin in your life? Whether we get vitamin D injections or pop a GNC supplement every morning, our bodies do require this fat-soluble nutrient to function properly. Check out these seven helpful facts about how vitamin D interacts with the human body.

7 Helpful Facts About Vitamin D

It’s Linked to Long Life!

Researchers at the University of South Australia recently published a study that shows a positive correlation between low vitamin D levels and early death in humans (Medical News Today). Yikes! Better not pass up that orange slice, right?

…But Our Bodies Struggle to Absorb It

Did you know that your body has a tough time utilizing the nutrients in oral vitamin supplements? In fact, our bodies struggle to absorb even 10% of these supplements. On the other hand, intravenous modes of application like vitamin D injections boast 100% absorption/bioavailability. That’s a pretty wild difference.

This factor my be key for folks deciding between vitamin D injections and supplements. Nutrient absorption is one of the metrics by which injectable vitamin D clearly outperforms traditional OTC oral supplements.

Vitamin D Deficiency is VERY Common

More than one in three US adults and one billion people worldwide have vitamin D deficiencies, according to the Cleveland Clinic. It’s a disturbing statistic to read. So, what can we do to ensure we get enough vitamin D in our own bodies?

Vitamin D Shots Are Widely Available

Is vitamin D injectable? Absolutely!

Injectable vitamin D can be an extremely practical option for some folks. The convenience and efficiency of this administration method combined with its total bioavailability make physician-administered vitamin D shots quite appealing. That said, please be sure to consult a doctor before making any changes to your healthcare routine.

Not All Vitamin D is the Same

Vitamins D2 and D3 may be the most common members of the vitamin D family, but they have some big differences. For instance, while vitamin D3 comes exclusively from meat and other animal food products, D2 tends to live in plants and fortified foods.

Generally thought to be the more potent of the two, we inject vitamin D3 in our sessions at Rejuvenate You. D3 injections from a licensed physician are an excellent option for virtually anyone. Those with certain kidney complications and those who only ingest meatless products may find that vitamin D2 suits them better (Well RX).

Not a Cure for Respiratory Infections

A molecule of the coronavirus disease.

It would be much cooler if vitamin D or vitamin D injections actually DID cure respiratory infections. Sadly, recent studies do not show this. As of late 2022, the nutrient has not proven valuable as a treatment for acute respiratory diseases (such as coronavirus). A prolonged, multi-year observation of research subjects is now underway to glean any relevant longterm effects of the study.

It’s Possible to Overdo It

You have to try pretty hard, but it IS possible to take too high of a dose of vitamin D and end up with what’s known as vitamin D toxicity. Not all sources of vitamin D can even cause toxicity though. While a great source of vitamin D, soaking up the sun won’t be sending you to an ER with vitamin D toxicity any time soon. However, taking too many OTC vitamin D supplements could do do just that, at least in theory (WebMD).

All that said, if you’re thinking about adding a little more of the sunshine vitamin to your life, it always pays to talk to a doctor.

Is Injectable Vitamin D Right For You?

Combining the effectiveness and enormous convenience of injectable vitamin D3 shots with the relatively inexpensive price tag means that this wellness treatment is an increasingly viable option for many amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life.
