7 Alternative Healing Modalities for 2024

October 13, 2022

Exploring alternative healing modalities is a wonderful gift to allow yourself. Once upon a time, therapeutic alternatives were seen as less important than traditional medicine. While this attitude may persist in some corners, more and more reputable doctors and scientists acknowledge the truth: holistic healing modalities can function in conjunction with traditional medicine to better support our wellness journeys. Luckily, there are TONS of avenues for wellness exploration in 2024. With that in mind, here are seven of our favorite alternative therapies to strengthen your body and mind.

What Are Non-Traditional Healing Modalities?

At their core, healing modalities are simply approaches for treating medical issues. Non-traditional healing modalities are those approaches that fall outside of the conventional medical mindset that places all focus on the physical body. Two terms exist underneath the umbrella of non-traditional modalities: “alternative healing modalities” and “complementary healing modalities.” A non-traditional modality is considered “complementary” when it is used in conjunction with traditional approaches. On the other hand, it would be called “alternative” if that treatment replaced conventional medical treatment (American Holistic Nurse Association).

Generally speaking, each of the therapeutic alternatives below can be used in conjunction with other traditional medicines. Please consult your doctor before making any changes to your health and wellness routine.

7 Alternative Healing Methods

IV Therapy

It should come as no surprise that IV nutrition makes the top of our list here at Rejuvenate You! Receiving a direct supply of vital vitamins and nutrients directly into the bloodstream is the quickest and most effective way to give your body the nutritional support it needs.

Technically, calling IV therapy a “non-traditional healing modality” isn’t totally accurate. Why? Because doctors use IV therapy for specific purposes all the time in hospitals. Recreational IV therapy can be considered an example of a “complementary healing modality” (see above).

Elite athletes may be most familiar with alternative therapies like compression therapy that promote speedy muscle recovery. These zip-up compression devices work by inflating to a pressurized level while wrapped around one’s legs or arms (typically). The devices then systematically squeeze/massage the limbs. Benefits include decreased muscle pain and better circulation.

Got respiratory issues? Himalayan salt therapy is one of the alternative healing methods you should consider. From asthma and bronchitis to COPD, inhaling dry salt particles can have a very positive effect on your breathing. Because at the end of the day, what matters more than your ability to breathe?

Infrared Sauna Therapy

This ain’t your grandad’s sauna! In actuality, your grandfather may enjoy this far BETTER than a conventional sauna. That’s because infrared saunas use a full spectrum of light to penetrate your skin and promote pain relief, better circulation, and several other positive biological benefits. With all those benefits, you might expect to be dripping with sweat afterwards, but infrared saunas are famously much more bearable than traditional saunas.

Yoga

You don’t have to be ultra flexible, drink tea instead of coffee, or ride a bicycle to work to start reaping the rewards of a new yoga practice. Yoga has been shown to have a positive effect on arthritis, heart health, back pain, and a variety of other issues (Johns Hopkins Medicine). Why not give it a shot and see if it’s for you?

Microneedling

Looking for a therapeutic alternative to the same old skin aging remedies? Microneedling is definitely worth your consideration. The many benefits of microneedling can include scar reduction, melisma reversal, and positive effects on sagging skin. Some folks worry that microneedling will be too painful, but it really isn’t. When conducted appropriately by a medical professional, any pain from a microneedling session should be quite minimal.

Red Light Therapy

Utilized by NASA for experiments that attempted to heal astronaut injuries and promote plant growth in outer space, few healing modalities can boast as rich a history as red light therapy. The potential benefits of the treatment are vast. These days, red light therapy is used to increase energy, relieve pain, improve sleep, and more. Sessions are relatively short and inexpensive too, making them a reasonable option for folks with busy schedules.
